Interesting fact: Although the Viennese Waltz has been danced in every series of Strictly, for the first two series it was only performed as a group dance in the final and not marked by the judges. It was then upgraded to a competitive dance in series three, and remained that way until series 7, when in addition to being included in the normal round of competitive dances, it was also re-established as a group dance, however, the judges gave a single combined score out of ten to each couple who performed. In series 7, Ali & Brian danced the Viennese Waltz in week 8 and achieved the perfect score of 40, then performed it again in the competitive group dance in the semi-final and were again awarded a combined score of 10 from the judges. They also chose the Viennese Waltz for their appearance in the 2009 Christmas Special, and again rewarded with a perfect score of 40, and won the hearts of the audience to become the Christmas Champions that year.
